Workshops
AFW Actors Workshop
The actor training experience for AFW workshops focuses on three major areas:
- fighting for the camera
- camera acting, and
- technical work.
Curriculum
Fight Training
The AFW offers detailed training in a variety of weapons (guns, knives, swords, and found props) and choreography necessary to the action film production needs of today’s filmmakers. Actors are shown the variations and similarities between stage and camera technique. Workshop participants develop experience to adapt to and excel in a variety of styles and mediums.
Along with the varied choreography, actors learn specialized movement warm-ups and camera performance techniques.
Camera Acting
Camera acting techniques cover character development, focus, eye line, circle of concentration, substitution, and emotional recall. Rehearsal process training includes script analysis, film performance energy, pace, and continuity.
Technical Work
Actors learn about lenses and depth of field, the production chain of command, SFX makeup, stunt doubling, post-production Foley and audio dubbing, motion capture, gun safety, legal contracts, and many useful tricks of the trade.
Professional acting teachers are present for all classes and throughout AFW production work. Professional stunt coordinators, DGA directors, and other professional personnel are also present throughout the workshop process to guarantee training integrity and production quality.
Actors who have an expertise in any technical aspect of film production may apply to the AFW to receive a scholarship or stipend for their added contribution to AFW production work. The AFW is currently applying to offer college credit for its workshop participants.
