A.C. Weary
A DGA television and film director since 1987, A.C. Weary began his career as a professional actor and fight director (SAG, AFTRA, AEA, BSFD, SAFD) in television, film, commercials, Off-Broadway, and regional theater productions (Seattle Rep, Chicago’s Goodman, St. Louis Rep, Boston’s Huntington, etc.).
His acting credits include the films Starting Over, What Waits Below, Nocturna, Eye For An Eye, and The McMartin Trial, and the television shows Hill Street Blues, Kate & Allie, Legwork, Jake and the Fatman, Q.E.D. (co-star), The Six O’Clock Follies (co-star), Father Dowling, Nero Wolfe, 13 13th Avenue, Tenspeed & Brownshoe, The Wizard, One Life to Live, and The Edge of Night.
A.C.’s Off-Broadway and regional theater directing credits include A Night at the Fights (also producer), Quiet On the Set, The Brooch, Call It Clover, Three For All, The Birdwatcher and One West Wacker (co-wrote TV pilot for NBC). Soap opera direction includes Another World, Guiding Light, and As The World Turns.
A.C. has done fight choreography for numerous Off-Broadway productions, including Booth, Hamlet, Tooth of Crime, A Night At The Fights, and Episode 26. For television, his choreography credits include One Life to Live, All My Children, Another World, The Tom Arnold Show, and Home Improvement, where the comic fight he created for Tim Allen was chosen for the show’s “Best Of” highlight reel.
His documentary The Green Monster, about a 65-year-old World Land Speed driver’s return to salt flat racing, was shown on PBS’s NOVA and was chosen by The Museum of Broadcasting as Best Documentary for 2001.
A.C. has taught as a guest artist at Occidental College, Rutgers University, Ohio University, Hope College, Kean University, and the Univsity of Washington, as well as at numerous summer workshops. On the faculty at CalArts (1990-1995), A.C. headed the MFA acting studio and developed New Works programs, producing 20 new plays and short films a year. It is from this program and Allen Suddeth’s “Barn Workshop” that Action Film Workshops was developed.
