J. Allen Suddeth
J. Allen Suddeth has worked professionally for the past thirty years out of the New York area. For television, he has staged stunt sequences for over 750 programs on ABC, CBS, NBC, and HBO. Both in New York sound stages and on location in Jamaica and Argentina, Allen has worked with principals and stunt doubles in rivers, on cliffs, in western towns, in caves, and in bars, bedrooms, banks, and jail cells to create mayhem.
Allen also appeared with the stunt team in the movies Cadillac Man and I Love NY. For Broadway, he has staged fights for Saturday Night Fever, Jekyll & Hyde, Angels in America, Loot, Saint Joan, A Small Family Business, Hide and Seek, and Gem Of The Ocean. For Off-Broadway and regional theater, he has staged literally hundreds of plays.
As a master teacher, Allen has trained thousands of actors for The Juilliard School, Mason Gross School of The Arts at Rutgers University, The Lee Strasberg Institute, and
The Stella Adler Conservatory, and has been a frequent guest artist atmajor universities in the U.S. and abroad.
For twelve years, Allen has also taught at the National Stage Combat Workshop, currently at U.N.L.V., and he is the founder of the National Fight Directors Training Program and co-founder of the Action Film Workshops held at The North Carolina School of the Arts.
Allen is ranked as one of eleven recognized Fight Masters in the United States by The Society of American Fight Directors. He is the author of Fight Directing for the Theatre, published by Heinemann Press.
