Richard Ryan
Richard Ryan is an internationally acclaimed Fight Director and teacher of stage combat, whose work has been seen worldwide. He has accumulated well over 300 major credits in film, theatre, opera, and TV.
He has just completed filming The Last Legion, directed by Doug Lefler, which is based on the Manfredi novel of the same name. The film, which stars Colin Firth, Sir Ben Kingsley, Aishwarya Rai, and Kevin McKidd, is due for release in the summer of 2006.
Richard also served as Swordmaster for the Warner Brothers epic film Troy, directed by Wolfgang Petersen. The Achilles and Hector fight (Brad Pitt and Eric Bana) was nominated for the Taurus World Stunt Award and the MTV Award for Best Fight.
Previous film and TV work includes Morning Was Broken, How the West Was Won, The Duel, Steam, and Iced, as well as performing and supplying additional fight choreography for The House of Angelo, Pirates, Treasure Islands, and Swordplay.
Richard has worked for many major companies such as The Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre of Ireland, Royal National Theatre, Cheek by Jowl, English National Opera, York Theatre Royal, and the award-winning Mercury Theatre, Colchester, along with various West End shows and National Tours. Projects have encompassed a traditional diet of Shakespearean and Jacobean plays as well as new contemporary works, and even a live show in Thailand where he staged a battle with eighty actors and four elephants.
Richard is the ‘Master-at-Arms’ to London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
